Meet Our Mentors
Big Sis Anita
Ms. Anita Budu is a qualified Social Worker with specialist experience in child protection and safeguarding. She has over 10 years experience working to support with children, young people, families and vulnerable adults in both government agencies, and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) internationally, and is a registered member of the Health and Care Professions Council (UK).
After completing her first degree in Social Psychology at Loughborough University in 2006, she then went on to work with a number of organizations providing care and support for vulnerable young people in the social care system in the UK.
In 2011, Anita completed her Masters in Social Work at Middlesex University and started work as a Child Protection Social Worker with the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, where she progressed to the role of Senior Practitioner in 2014.
When IJM set up a field office in Ghana to tackle child trafficking and forced child labor, Anita felt called to serve this vulnerable group of children in her home country. In January 2015, she took on the role of Aftercare Casework Manager in the IJM Ghana office, and has been in the role of Director of Aftercare since October 2016. Within this role, she manages a team of Social Workers working to build the capacity of Ghanaian government agencies in addressing the issue of child trafficking.
Anita also provides consultative services and trainings on child protection systems to private organizations, NGO’s, schools and churches.
In her spare time, she provides mentorship for young people from all backgrounds to support them in their personal, professional and social development.
